Casey - I don't expect "hicks" who voted in the past to support Obama - but the "hick" electroate is pretty small.  Remember, Bush just squeeked by in both elections, and part of his electorate was decent hard working republicans - like many that we have on the board here, decent folk who want what's best for America, and who thought Bush was the guy who'd bring it.  Then there were the "hicks" - the right wing version of our nutty "burnouts" - a small embarrassing portion of the electorate.  And then, Bush has some really frothed up terrifying religious nuts voting for him - not your average decent believer who goes to Chucrh, but the real frothy angry types, who were lured out of their caves to vote with the offer of not just voting for a fellow Pentacostal, but Also a chace to pass judgement on the gays.

Obama will get the votes of the hard-core Dems, and he'll get the votes of many independants and he'll even get some votes of those same hard-working decent republicans who voted for Bush - but he'll never get the hicks, nuts or fanatics, so... it's a bit moot, isn't it?  Fortunately, they're not any sort of majority of voters.

 QUOTE:
Why would ANY Christian church or organization give anything to Farrakan, when the only thing he deserves is someone's foot up his ass?

This subject came up on one of the local talk radio shows last Monday.  Both of the hosts are originally from Chicago, and one said that he's familiar with the church in question, as it's the general area of Chicago he grew up in.  If his comments are accurate, pretty much every place of worship in that vicinity has some sort of connection with Farrakan, and do what they can to maintain at least a civil relationship with him, as that's the area he's based out of...they just don't want the headache of provoking him where he's got the most resources to be a major pain to them.

Obama has also stated on record that he objected to the award being given to Farrakan.

Who honestly thinks that Clinton and Obama could ever reach an agreement where whoever comes in second would be the running mate?

and I'm not actually saying he is a Muslim or anything

*******

My big problem with the Muslim issue is that people have only said "no he's not" and "yes he is" and not "who cares?". Personally, I don't give a monkeys what religion or not a candidate is. I look at their policies. Being Muslim does not mean being bad. If I was a voter, my only issue with him being Muslim (if he is) is that he's hiding it.

Like Obama said...if I'm such a poor choice, why do you want me as VP?

Yeah, what kind of logic is that? You don't have enough experience but you can work for me.

Yeah, that's awful big of Hillary - who is behind in delegates, won half the states Obama won, got less total popular vote - that's really big of her to offer him a VP spot.

She's in no position to offer him anything.  She'll be lucky if he appoints her dog-catcher.

I'd love it if he called her at 3 am and asked her that.

Once Obama gets the Democratic nomination, I expect one particular four-letter word to be all over headlines shortly thereafter.

No one will be offering the vice-presidential nomination to Eliot Spitzer.
