Gladiator could defeat the X-Men all by his lonesome, so even knowing the good guys usually win in the end, I don't like their odds.•• It's part of the challenge. Can't have combatants fall behind a bar and have one emerge victorious. (One of the lesser frustrations, back in the day, was when Chris and I would do a two-parter that ended the first part with the X-Men defeat. Letters would come in. "Gee, I guess the X-Men aren't as tough as I thought, since XXXXX was able to beat them." Then, next issue, the team would rally and defeat the bad guys and the SAME PEOPLE would write to say "I guess XXXXX isn't as tough as I thought. . . ")

Well, given the right strategy, even Gladiator sometimes loses a fight (such as in Fantastic Four 250) and that's not a bad thing in my eyes as it'd be no fun to have an unbeatable character. I suspect Jean's telepathy would have been helpful as well...

How to beat Gladiator? The question's solution is easy.
Go read any back issue of Superman before, say, that Invasion fiasco. How was Superman challenged? Magic? Red sun? Kryptonite? Hostages? Pick any way you prefer and apply it to Gladiator.
Now, PRACTICALLY applying the method is the hard part. But I KNOW Mr. Byrne has a genius method in mind.
Maybe Jahf is Gladiator's Mxyzptlk... :D :D :D

I wonder if Gladiator's senses are subtle enough to pick up differences between this Jean and the one they allowed to return to Earth some time ago. Even so, I don't like Jean's odds facing Gladiator one-on-one.
In other business: JB, will you be taking days off over the holidays? I hope you'll take Christmas Day and New Years Day to relax a bit.

I don’t find days off to be relaxing. Too much of a workaholic. I’ll most likely work on Friday, and the Friday after.

For quite a few people, working is the best relaxation. (I love writing but have difficulty making time for it.) And frankly, if I had your talent and skills, I'd probably rather be at a drawing table too, translating the thoughts in my imagination into reality.

Although I'm asking you to repeat yourself, could you give us "newer" folks a run down of all your beasties?

Gladiator looks so powerful. It's like he's super, man!
(I better duck n' cover!!!)
All kidding aside. To me, he's the last resort if the other members of the Imperial Guard cannot handle their foes.
