Colossus without the mechanical articulation might look like a relative of Pylon from TRIPLE HELIX.

Certainly no accident there—and the main reason I am resisting giving Peter a “secondary mutation”.

I mean, aside from the fact that I find that whole concept dumb and lazy.

Just a thought...  If Colossus doesn't need to breathe in his metal form, does he need to eat?

The assumption is that Peter turns to metal “all the way thru.” Certainly that fits with some of the things we’ve seen him do. As I’ve noted before, if his internal organs remained flesh and blood, jumping from great heights would be messy. And, again, we must return to him having been burned at the stake in the Savage Land. Biological organs would have cooked.

Thru-out its history, Marvel has had a high quota of characters that did not really invite close study. The Human Torch and Iceman, for instance. And the all new, all different X-Men gave us TWO such characters, Colossus and Nightcrawler.

All things considered, then, I would say Colossus CANNOT eat. Those metal organs can’t process food as do our biological ones.

So, there’s another question: if Peter stays in his metal form long enough, will he starve?

If he goes for long enough, maybe. Even if EVERYTHING in his body
turns to metal, some systems are still working as normal. He’s able to
see and even think while having solid metal eyes and brain. He’s able
to talk while having no lung function and solid metal vocal chords. And
for him to be moving and doing stuff at all would require some sort of
fuel, I would think.

The matter of Colossus' speech functions is a top reason not to think about it too much. While he would presumably be able to draw air into his lungs (even if he didn't need to) and expel it past his vocal cords, the result might sound a lot like one of those throat mikes used by people who have had cancer.

Does Peter‘ s blood turn into some kind of liquid metal like mercury or something?  Does he even have blood circulating through his body?

Yeah.  Colossus is a character I’d feel better not thinking about for too long.  As it is I wish the “I don’t need to breathe” aspect of his character had never been mentioned.  It seems to have invited lots of bugaboos.

It does if we let it. Of course, being that these are comic books, and complete fantasies, all we really have to do is jump aboard and hold on!

Everything about today's page is perfect, especially the "little things" a lot of artists would mess up or just forget.

From Jean's "sodden appearance to her left foot to the positioning of Scott's right hand and stance to the water pooling on the deck beneath Colossus' stirring form to Xavier's left arm and wheelchair to a Kitty who looks like a kid... and still capturing the Grays in the back... Wow.
