The trouble is, Wayne, you put the character in the situation you like, but there may be developments over the last 20 or 30 years ago that other people like, and then you got disagreements and trouble.

settings."
Spider-Man's own (real) origin is fairly fantastical, so perhaps that's
not the problem. I think "The Other" just burdens an otherwise simple,
interesting origin that almost anyone, fan or newcomer, can understand.

I understand that, but from another thread - the recipe for failure is
trying to please everyone. If I had my 'druthers Pete would be in high
school, Gwen would be there and Aunt May would be talking about
Miss Watson's niece and how Peter should meet her. That's a pretty
long trip in the way-back machine, I know. It doesn't have to go that
far............but I'd like to see it go far enough back so that the
character could be accessible to new readers and kids once again.
And I know all the arguments against "all-ages" books. But all the
crap that's been put on the character lately - would anybody really
care to see that go away? Really?

I've been reading Spider-Man comics for 30 years and really the only things I think need rebooting are Wayne's suggestions. I loved the Spider-mobile..I loved the 'Original" clone story-line. I even enjoyed Ben Reilly until I was told "the Spidey you grew up with is not the real Spidey". Myself...I would reboot to Amazing 150. Gotta keep those Grizzly issues! :)

If there was someone at the Condo of Concept who was up to the task, I would say right about now would be the time to placate the older fans (us) with "Spider-Boy - the Adventures of Spider-Man When He was a Boy". Not literally, of course, but something several degrees less anal than "UNTOLD TALES", set in the high school days.If anyone up there now tried it, tho, we'd end up with "Spiderville".

I must say, that JMS's run on Amazing so far has
been well written and showed a sense of thematic
and stylistic unity that the title had been missing for
years.
I agree with most posts, that what JMS did, was NOT
good Spider-Man, but it stayed within the framework
of what the character had been, until now...
The Other storyline will change that forever. It's time
for me to drop the Spider-Man titles. After years of
absence I had come back to Spider-Man mainly
because of J.R.J.R.'s artwork. It made me endure all
the strange stuff that JMS did to the character
(always well written). Now that Romita's left and the
Other storyline coming up, it is time to turn my back
on Spider-Man for good.

What do you think "Ultimate Spider-Man" is? Currently 87 issues strong.
Second question - renouncing the Spider-God and hitting reset gets
rid of the biowebshooters and the spider-stingers (my god, don't we
have enough Wolverine in the MU?) and any other baggage you want.

The biowebshooters and the spider-stingers can be resolved quickly.
Spider-Man uses organic webbing against Electro. Electro fries it.
Spider-Man screams in pain, nearly collapses, beats Electro, and
collapses for real. He awakens in the Fantastic Four/ New Avengers
infirmary where he's told that his organic webbing has been entirely
disintegrated. And his claws are gone too. But no time to complain
about that, since Electro just escaped police custody.
