I like the big spider, but everything else about it screams YUCK.

I'm one of those people who liked the black-and-white costume, too.

The black and white costume was fantastic.

Can you tell me how the new costumes were welcomed in the US?

What about the b/w suit, the Ben Reilly's...

Once again, history repeats itself. The '90s were full of bad new costumes for many iconic characters. Most of them were dumped by Heroes Return in '97. I'm hoping for something similar to happen, soon!

Considering how long the b/w costume lasted, or at least was alternated, I'd say it was pretty popular but people were torn because they liked the original too.

I know Todd McFarlane said once he wanted to work on Red and Blue Spidey, and they gave the b/w to Venom, so it seems it is mostly gone for good.

But, it definitely was popular.

I think the Ben Reilly costume, and Ben Reilly, grew on a lot of people, but most just wanted to get the real deal back.

The way the article mentions that the costume ties into Civil  War and how Peter becomes indebted to Tony for it's creation leads me  to believe it's a  temporary thing, being used as a plot device.  As such, if I read Spider-Man, I'd be more likely to judge it on the strength of the story instead of just reacting with "oh no they changed Spider-Man's costume!"

Also, the fact that Spider-Man is probably the most recognizable superhero in the world right now due to his movies also leads me to believe this is just a temporary thing.

And I'm sure Chris Hutton was joking when he suggested that Joe Quesada shoot himself, but jeez, but comeon - that's not cool.
