I try not to quote myself too much; I might go blind.

When an artist can do issues of Amazing Spider-Man that sell 100 thousand copies, and that artist can then go and do his own original work and it will STILL sell 100 thousand, then the creator is the draw.  Unless that's what happens, though, it's the characters that are the real selling point.

Ummmm....I don't believe I was ever discussing which is the bigger selling point.  All I said was that I don't think having "stars" hurts the comic industry...just like it doesn't hurt the movie, music or television industry.

*************

That's not used for vision, but for eye protection.

More than you would ever want to know about Lightning Man:

He has eyes. He has pupils. His mask is like Batman's or Green Lantern's in that, in most drawings by most of his artists (that is to say me), he is drawn without showing them. His mask is not like Spider-Man's in that they aren't meant to be lenses.

And they all lived happily ever after.

It is in sharks, but a somewhat transparent nictitating membrane could function to limit the amount of light striking the retina.

(Oh, you didnt think I thought it through before I posted!!!)
