I'm still holding out for a Simone/Byrne Batman title.

Bah! Can someone please explain to me the wisdom behind this move by DC? Readers were getting what they wanted - John Byrne, back on a Superman monthly book, with one heck of a fantastic writer along for the ride to boot. Sales, as I understand it, looked great. So the logical step to take is... put a stop to this fantastic blend of Simone, Byrne, and Superman.

DC need to understand this: the customer (the readers!) pays their wages. A move such as this is going to lose them custom.

This past month, I've dropped FLASH from my pull list. Now DOOM PATROL is going, and now I'm dropping ACTION too. I think BOTD will be my only DC purchase once Phil Jimenez' excellent OTHERWORLD winds up.

Bah!

I can't explain it, but I understand that DC's shaking up all the creative teams, not just on "Action Comics."

So....it means that January 2006 will be a "one JB Title month" again???

If Gail and Byrne won't be in Action...i will leave Action too...the only Superman title i'm buying....

Okay, rant time...

Up until a few months ago, I was a very contented DC reader (after decades of being a mostly-Marvel kind of guy). But with all of the crossovers that I don't care about and line-wide storylines that I don't want to follow and the apparent trend away from "island books" that exist in their own little world (like DOOM PATROL and BLOOD OF THE DEMON), I'm starting to feel like paring down the number of books I am buying. I bought INFINITE CRISIS and mostly enjoyed it, but because I am not buying all the lead-in and spin-off books a lot of the backstory caused some head-scratching. I want to buy books because I want to, not because I need to.

It feels like DC is becoming a meta-fiction project where everything is connected to everything else, and that's not why I read comics. Anyone else feeling this way?

Yep. To paraphrase a line JB has used, it appears that DC is trying to be
Marvel in the worst way.

I've got to say that I am utterly crazy about JB's and Gail's previous work,
but their Superman did not rock my boat. It's not the MOS Superman
anymore, rather a silver age throwback I didn't much care for.
I had the distinct feeling Gail was producing Morrisonisms in the dialogue
and we all know about Nelson "pulling a Nelson" each and every issue.

Taskmaster and Agent X were Simone projects I greatly enjoyed and every
time I pick up Birds of Prey - which depends a bit on the artist - I've had
fun. So, I hope they get together again for a project that is worth their
talent.

I got the feeling that due to the current editorial policy on Superman, this
just wasn't the case in this run.

Thinking: okay, one more book to scratch off my comic buying list... (after 835, that is)

Before even hearing who the new creative team will be?  Isn't that as bad as the people who drop a book just because John comes on board without seeing what he has planned?

No, because that would be dropping a character you are following because
of an upcoming creative team. This is dropping a character I was only
following due to the current creative team.

I'm out...While a lot of fun Action could have been even better with out al the IC stuff barging in. It'll be missed, but not quite as much as Doom Patrol.

Well, I'll wait and see who'll be coming on board next, but more than likely I'll probably be dropping the title as well, since it really was the creative team that drew me back to ACTION after quite a few years.  I like Superman, but he's a character that needs to be handled just right, and if that's not the case in a few months...

Again, this sucks moose.

Very bad news.  This news bothers me much more than the cancellation of Doom Patrol. I thought the deal was 12-issues for each creative team?  What happened?  Why is this run only 9 issues?

It looks like I will most likely be dropping Action Comics too.

If anyone needed to leave that book, it was the inker.
