" Huh. And I thought this board was generally
against giving special treatment to the "fan turned
pro.""

I wonder if Quietly could get away with deadlines in the high-flying advertising work Morrison claims Quietly would otherwise be doing. Would he still be considered a professional outside of comics?

Morrison's interview is the equivalent of Alex Ross's dad telling fan's to 'fuck off and be happy you're getting anything at all' before Kingdom Come was published.

"But it makes all the difference in the world that it isn't.

Art has different rules, like it or not. Bad artists that're slow don't get
extra leeway. Good (or even just popular) artists that are...do.

Sometimes.

It's not one size fits all.

And whatever the case, the market will decide whether the wait is
worth it (if indeed there is a wait - we're purely in the realm of
speculation here)"

Dave,

You are drinking the kool-aide, buddy. We as paying customers
have every right to expect that the books be published as they are
solicited. If it's a monthly book - I want to get it monthly. If it's
quarterly - then every three months is okay by me. I have no
problem with Quitely drawing the book. I don't really like his style
on super-heroes so I'll probably pass. Where I and most others here
have a problem is DC offering this book up without sufficent issues
in the can to fufill the promise of it's schedule. Now if Frank wants
to do it, he should be professional enough to have enough
work done in advance so he can keep the time schedule and so
should Morrison for that matter. And DC should have required this
before putting the book in Previews. What about this policy would
prevent any of these "star" artists from doing the comics the fanboys
seem to love? Wouldn't they get to have their cake and eat it too?
The books they want and on time as well? Imagine that.

The first time they bought the whole "growing roses" excuse was one
great big nail in the industry's coffin. And every time it gets used,
another one gets hammered home.

WO - btw, did you ever read "Get Fuzzy'?

You need to either get your eyes checked/glasses cleaned, or find somebody to read and explain to you what I wrote, because I've never had anyone TOTALLY miss the mark as you did when it came to reading and understanind my post.
Hong Kong cinema called and they want their bad translaton back.

What I want to know is this - if everyone loves Adams so much, how come his books I've listed on eBay and Half.com don't sell?  I've relisted a few of them at rock bottom prices.  They might be heading for the bonfire too!

Mike...you wouldn't believe the books I've all but given away on ebay to no avail.

My new policy is to just trash 'em, and if someone goes garbage digging in the alley, then they've got some flea market material.

Want 'em Bob?  Got some good stuff!  The only Adams I managed to move was the Deadman reprints, and that was in a bundle of Deadman stuff - like 30 comics - that went for like, a buck.

Yet... someone gave me a copy of that lousy Origin series - unreadable crap, and I sold that for like $40.  Hunh...

Funny ol' world.

Mike -- drop me an e-mail and let me know what Adams stuff you're trying to get rid of. I'm not looking to add to my collection per se, but I need some good reading material, and this kind of stuff fits the bill nicely.

 QUOTE:
Is meeting one's contractual obligations more important than being a total fuck-off?

I wonder: do they even include schedules in all the contracts these days?  I wonder what the language reads like, if it's there.

Er, I shouldn't be saying this sort of stuff without the exact wording here to back me up - so understand that this is faulty memory and all... but a friend of mine works for Marvel, and he showed me his contract, that has all sorts of fines and penalties for being late.

Erm, don't quote me, I don't know the exact fines, or if they're inforced (my friend doesn't miss deadlines, even when he was working on a certain Vertigo title that was recently bandied about here as shipping on time - the same one where he would get the scripts a few days before the pencils were due.  I'm not saying anything - might not be the writers fault - I know for a fact that some of the editors were wastes of human energy and spirit - I don't know anything about the reasons - I'm just saying...) - but I was pretty shocked to hear about the policy.

Sorry. I thought you were making stupid points, but apparently
you're just a cruddy writer. My bad.

Just out of interest, what was I playing to win?
