Video Games worlds like Final Fantasy, The Resident Evil Series, Everquest, Dark Age of Camelot, Halo, I could go on forever are far more complex and diverse than Marvel and DC have been for 30 years... The pocket universe of the big two companies has been on a repeating loop for the last 30 years..with the same characters doing the same things but with different creative teams...

If you want an all encompising in depth, complex fully realized world video games today offer more than comics in every single facet....

In fact playing the newly released Hulk Destruction game...the story so far is better than the Hulk has been in 20 years

but I would say that the fact that games are so prevalent points to a deficiency in the younger generation that I find alarming.

Some people would say the same about comics. Video games are as valid as any other artistic medium.

Lance, what I was trying to point out was that comics as a medium, since they are telling stories about other people, helps a readers sense of empathy to grow, and this is something essential for young children.  My experience is that with videogames, there isn't the same level of emotional involvement with the characters, therefore, one isn't as affected by, let's say, the death of a central character than one is in a comicbook.

I agree that videogames are a valid artistic medium, just a very different one.

" Plus, it is interactive.  With friends, or even today, with people from across the world."

True. But for it to be convincing fellow players need to act the role of their characters well, which they rarely do. When Sir Morgaine says "what u doin with that gold, dood?", even incredible graphics and gameplay cannot maintain a sense of "reality".
