$24.1 mil in two days.  Not too shabby considering they were school days.  We'll really see how this puppy does come tomorrow at this time.  That's when we'll have Friday's figures:

The Thursday show at 8 was 69% full, the Friday 1015 show was 95%, maybe 99% full.  Not that my little experience means so much.

I think this movie will have legs.  Clooney and company I think made it open less strong but I think word of mouth will increase viewings.  I tricked my wife into going, but unlike Spider-Man I had a hunch she would like it and she did, just as a movie.

See, my fiancee i knew would not like Batman nearly as much as Spider-man.  She likes a little more fun, a little more jokes, a little more romance.*  Plus she finds Spider-man much more relatable.

Plus, she said "Batman already had his movies why do we need another" and "How many comic book movies do we need?"

I try to explain that Batman, and spider-man and X-men, and Hulk and Punisher were all pretty different, but.........

*Though she liked the Punisher, go figure.

As to legs, well it is a good movie, and we haven't seen it before.  Will kids be too scared by the Scarecrow to see it more than once? Unknown-he was pretty scary.

Herbie and Bewitched are its only competition next week so it should do well.

From BoxOfficeGuru.com for Saturday:

Batman Begins led the box office on Friday with an estimated $15.2M in its third day of release pushing its total to $39.4M. The Friday tally came in lower than last Friday's $18.6M launch of Mr. & Mrs. Smith, although the Caped Crusader debuted on Wednesday pulling much of its fan base out on Wednesday and Thursday. For the Friday-to-Sunday session, Batman Begins might collect $42-46M givng Warner Bros. $66-70M over five days. By comparison, openings for the last two films in the franchise were $52.8M for 1995's Batman Forever and $42.9M for 1997's Batman & Robin. Both bowed in June on a Friday.

I'm not one to pay much attention to box office stats, but it seems the film is doing well, if not spectacular.  It should dominate, at least until WAR OF THE WORLDS blows into town.

I just can't work up any enthusiasm for this film; my reaction is just kinda "Oh,  Batman again."  I may just wait for the DVD.

Your loss, Thom.  Just came back from watching it and I can say, unequivocally, that it is the best film about a superhero that I have ever seen...and that includes the Donner SUPERMAN.  Just ask Doug Jones.

I was going to create a poll, but it appears that would create a new thread, and I don't want to start a redundant thread on the board. Anyway, my question for a poll:

What would hurt "Batman Begins" more in terms of boxoffice success:

1. The stigma of past "Batman" films.

2. The lack of publicity before release.

3. The relatively unknown lead actor.

4. The trailers.

5. The general audience is not excited about another "Batman" film.

6. Other.

I would say The stigma of past Batman films and the trailers. I don't think there was too much lack of publicity, Lord of the Rings had unknowns, yet it did phenomenal business.I don't buy star power sells movies.

While I plan to see it, I'm not as excited as I should be. For me, the rubber suit bugs me. The trailers make it seem like we're gonna spend half the movie not only seeing Batman's origin, but also his training. It almost looks like the begining could be taken from a plot from a Van Danme (sp) movie. He looses family members and goes to the orient to train and we sit trought the training. The only thing missing is a big blood sport fight at the end.

That said, I do plan to see it. Word of mouth has me convinced that I might enjoy it.

Orlando, while Bruce's training does take up a sizable portion of the film, it is not as tedious and boring as the non-Hulk scenes in "The Hulk," and are fun to watch. Also, I was afraid there wouldn't be that much Batman action, but I was wrong. There's plenty!

The latest numbers from Boxofficemojo.com (sorry I don't know how to do the link thing) has Batman Begins pulling in 71 million dollars for its first 5 days.  Certainly not horrible numbers, but I suspect more was expected.  Given the huge drop offs now typical at the box office, BB has a decent chance at $200 million and maybe a little more.  That should be good news, but I wonder what the studio reaction would be if an icon like Batman comes in behind not only Spider-man but the X-men as well.
