"(He also wrote 'By Mennen.')"

That's hysterical. As a kid, I used to mentally sing that jingle repeatedly, but using random words instead.
I know I've seen a standup bit or two built around it over the years, too.

If I kept six degrees to people I worked with, then my only real access point would be a friend of mine who was an Olympian in the 70's, training alongside Kaitlyn Jenner.
My friend once held the distinction of being the "fastest white man on earth" - meaning he never won anything.

Even they weren't ballsy enough to tell us what to do! Even seeing the phrase printed on the label induces the jingle in my head. Now THAT's effective marketing.

(Of comic-related note, Doug also wrote the theme for "Bucky O'Hare" and all the music for "The Tick" cartoon series.)

My favorite connection is: My friend Dan wrote a biography of Jack Webb (Producer and star of Dragnet- Joe Friday). While researching his book he met many actors and Hollywood people, among them Dan Ackroyd, who played "Joe Friday" in the Dragnet Movie. Ackroyd's co-star in the film was Tom Hanks. Tom Hanks did a movie a few years ago where he played Fred Rogers. One of my students was in that movie!
It doesn't just connect, it loops!

Here's a connection I have... I knew my best friend's great-uncle, who was a reporter covering the Scopes Trial, a man who developed a friendship with H.L. Mencken, got drunk with Clarence Darrow, and shared jokes with William Jennings Bryan.

This is a definite looking glass moment for me, albeit a small one. I've spent a sizeable portion of my life convinced it was "buy", not "by". How did I manage to not see any of the ads where the word is actually printed on the screen??
