It certainly taught me something. I thought ravens and crows were the
same.

Byrne means raven, so I learned early on how to tell them apart. The easiest way is that ravens have feathery ruffs around their necks, almost like Elizabethan collars.

We put some bird food out last week. In those dangling bird feeders.
Within a day there was a magpie that would jump up from the floor, kick the
feeder with mealworms in, and spill some on the floor.
Eat those, jump up and kick it again.
Their mates just ate what was left on the floor while just the one did the
kicking.
The mealworms lasted a couple of days.
We loved watching that.

I went to a wildlife shelter near here (yes, it has a quite well-known TV show about it) and they had a raven... and once you'd seen it, you'd never confuse it with a crow. It was huge.
