Doh.... my memory has become more faulty than my wit, which
has been in question, for years.

My best friend bought me a copy of Wheelie #2, as a gift
for being his best man, back in 1991. That was the first
time I had been aware of your involvement in the series....

Because there’s always a negative story…….

Charlton had sent a letter to all the artists working for them pointing out that there was a line across the cover boards, indicating the size of the logo, and above that line WE MUST NEVER DRAW!!!

So I did my first WHEELIE cover paying strict attention to that line. Only, unbeknownst to me, the WHEELIE logo was quite shallow, so there was a considerable gap between the top of my art and the bottom of the logo.

A few months later a newly hired associate editor sent out a letter instructing us to always FILL the available space—and using my WHEELIE cover as an example of doing it WRONG.

sigh
