Are any of you readers of the Nancy comic? Or historic nancy fans? A few years back Nancy's synidcate (I guess?) made a bold call to go in a wildly different direction hiring Olivia Jaimes to take Nancy in a weird modern direction based on Jaimes' own idiosyncratic take. It was a critical success and seemingly a sufficiently commercial success that it carried on until James recently stepped aside.
They then continued with bold decision-making choosing an award-winning indie cartoonist named Caroline Cash to take over and I've been loving it. In particular I love referential bits in daily comics and Caroline is definitely going there. Here's her latest that references other comics (and ala our host JB even includes herself in the comic).

Right, because I am the only artist who’s ever done that.

I did not know that NANCY was still being distributed. Used to read it back in the 70s.

UK readers were introduced to Nancy in February 1953 in the first issue of The Topper, DC Thomson's new tabloid size comic. It featured Sunday pages from both Nancy and Fritzi Ritz, the strip where Nancy had first appeared. Her aunt only made it to issue 99 but Nancy lasted until issue 1111 in 1974.

Since it's never been syndicated to any of my local papers (at least during my lifetime), I have to actively seek it out. The Comics Journal did a good job pointing me at Olivia James' work, so when I could remember to do so, I'd check it out online.

Those Cash strips are already a lot of fun. Thanks for posting!
