Casey, I'm not sure if you're playing down the statement because rationally you don't think it's possible that this is what the threat actually means, or for another reason.
But if you're looking for rational, there ain't nothing about this that's rational to begin with. Seeking rationality now feels pointless. We're in free fall. This is fucked.

Evan, I certainly believe it's possible, but I also have seen this guy TACO constantly this term. I honestly don't know what americas objective in this war is and I assume that trump would love to take their oil.
Also, I can't imagine any country in the region would appreciate the potential for radioactive fallout hitting them.
But yes, I do believe trump pretty much does what he wants and it would not surprise me if he did order a nuclear strike.

President claims a whole civilisation will die tonight. The White House Press Secretary follows up with only the president knows where things stand and what he will do.
This doesn't sound democratic. Or lawful. It sounds like... that's right, a dictatorship. And what are Congress doing about this? You know, the body with whom the power to declare war resides. When last was there a mental health check on Trump? Because this rage over another country not doing exactly what he says is not sane behaviour.

The BBC asked the US State Department if Trump's statement was a threat of genocide.
A spokesperson said: 'That is not what President Trump said and you should go read his statement again. President Trump was clear: 47 years of extortion, corruption and death will finally end.'
Trump's exact wording: A whole civilization will die tonight, never to be brought back again. I don’t want that to happen, but it probably will.
So, according to the spokesperson, Trump doesn't want an end to extortion, corruption and death?
Doesn't seem like the spokesperson has a logical grip on the meaning of the statement.

Congress is conveniently on recess for two weeks. I have yet to hear of any of them rushing back to try and stop this.
Remember, as Hegseth said, it's time to go and kill some bad guys. He really said that. Bloodthirsty creep.

The fucked up thing about this is (among other fucked up things about him in general), he's treating this like a damn TV show.
Which means many people will be glued to cable news to see if he follows through with his threat or TACOs.

The crew of Artemis II picked a fine time to go out in space. If there were to be a nuclear war while they are out there, they'd be the only ones left to pick up the pieces.
Hmmm, that plot sounds familiar.......

He sacked 19 generals last week. I’m fearful that these were generals who were refusing to obey his orders, thus leaving him a route to do what he wants to do. I’m actually worried as to the world I will wake up to tomorrow

Not to alarm anyone further, but I just remembered that the original version of Bradbury’s “There Will Come Soft Rains” takes place in August, 2026.
