"...died of complications," that NBC News link reports.

His life was complicated too, as will be his legacy.

He belonged to a tiny group of people with whom I utterly disagree and yet grudgingly respect.

I wrote this on my social media-  don't let the funereal hagiography make us forget just how corrupt and evil Cheney and W's administrations were. (Yes, Trump seems worse but much of the same self-enriching, warlordism was happening with Cheney/ W, too.)
Cheney was enriched via war in Iraq and Afghanistan via his corporate connections to Halliburton and Kellog, browmn and root (a subsidiary that took over commisary logistics for the army during Bush's terms.) He also pushed the start of the Unitary Executive concept thatr Trump has run with and was a fan of surveillance state, extraordinary rendition (aka torture) and a whole lot of other bad shit. Most of the corporate media will be praising him- interestingly CEO Today of all places may have the most honest appraisal I'v seen so far.

My favorite Cheney story is his letter of resignation, which he kept in a safe in case he became incapacitated during his Vice Presidency. There's no provision for replacing a VP who is incapacitated but still alive, so he wanted that covered due to his previous health problems. Only his top aide and Bush knew about the letter.

Probably the most evil man I've seen operate in my lifetime, but he was a pro in his villainy.

Made his present day equivalents look like the clowns they are.

I have another fellow in mind who tops him in my view.

Cheney and Rumsfeld were both thoroughly rotten. Rumsfeld at least gave us the laugh of "unknown unknowns" and his wrongdoing seemed to go no further than lining his own pockets with little concern for anything other than the thinnest tissue of propriety. Cheney's rottenness and disregard for constraints on presidential powers, though, has reverberated down the years and we're now getting the full deafening echo full blast.

Present day equivalents are much less intelligent than Cheney, but paradoxically are far more effective and doing far more damage.

I used to hate the guy but time softens the edges of emotion. Now, I don't really feel much of anything. If I had a time machine, I would have tried to ensure he wasn't Vice President, but... alas, I don't have one.
