I can't remember if I told this story here or not. When I was growing up in the 80s, the art teacher at my middle school had us all bring in artwork from our favorite artists. Kids brought in posters of Starry Night, or Monet, etc. I brought in FF #258 and the first volume of the softback Elf Quest compilations.

My teacher was someone who over first few weeks of school had somewhat talked down about illustration and had discounted comic books. I'm not sure if I ever fully changed her mind, but she admitted that the cover of FF 258 was an interesting idea. (I imitated it once by drawing a torn painting of a farm setting that had robots shooting each other underneath) and by the end of the school year, she'd borrowed all 4 volumes of Elf Quest (there were only 4 at the time) because she got into the story haha.

Congrats again JB!

Congratulations, JB - much deserved.

And Will Eisner was right - you're a master storyteller.

Congratulations, JB!

You’re also the recipient of Wallace’s Favorite Comic Book Creator Award, though I realize that particular recognition doesn’t carry the same weight as a Harvey Hall of Fame induction.

If anything, Wallace, it carries more.

Not to throw shade on the Harvey Awards, but since the earliest days of my career the heartfelt endorsements of individual fans have meant the most to me.
