I wonder if a bolt of lightning on the front of Storm's costume and greater emphasis on the sound waves on Banshee's gliders would have helped.
Oh, and putting Wolverine in the brown outfit, of course.

Not to wander too far afield, but... I really enjoyed those solo HUMAN TORCH stories. I may need to pull that MARVEL ESSENTIALS volume off the shelf the next time I make it back to the Bull City!

Speaking of writing Sue, sorry if it’s drift, but… didn’t Sue hold the Hulk back with her force field? Wouldn’t that technically make her the strongest person in the Marvel universe?

She threw a bubble around his head, cutting off oxygen and knocking him out.

Ah ok, thanks. I could have sworn she held him off, but I’m probably conflating several characters.

As a kid, I ranked the FF’s members in this order in terms of how formidable they are...
Ben Johnny Reed Sue
Later, that order flipped.
Sue Reed Johnny Ben
Now I’m here.
Reed Sue Johnny Ben

They complement each other so perfectly that I couldn’t possibly rank one the “best”. They’re all lessened by not having the other three to play off of.

Asking me my favorite FF member would be a challenge -- but asking me the "best"? I'm not even sure what the criteria for that would be because the characters, their personalities, powers, abilities, all bring such different elements to the team. Perhaps a more specific question, e.g., which member is the best leader, at least then I feel I could narrow it down to Reed and Sue. (Thank you, JB, for helping to re-make Sue such that, yes, she could indeed easily be seen fit to lead the team!)

Part of my pleasure in boosting Sue is that I didn’t really change her. I just took advantage of what was there, rather than trying to add to her established character. (Stan and Jack had made her more powerful by adding the forcefields to her invisibility, yet they still kept her mostly in the background.)I read online that Vanessa Kirby wants a chance to play Malice. I shudder at the thought.

You definitely took the best of what was there and whatever you added fit right in. Again, nice job! While I stopped being a reader a couple of years after you began on the FF, I did not fail to notice what a difference there was between your Sue and Chris Claremont's Sue in X-MEN Annual #5, both I believe around that same time, 1981.

Before John Byrne's run, my favorite was defintely Johnny. I was younger, of course, and the youngest of the group spoke to my soul.Growing up, and having witnessed JB's run, I tend to think of Sue as my favorite. But, I think they are so essential to each other that it's a bit unfair to cast a vote for "best". The four of them together is best.
Now, I am going to catch the podcast!
