The Conclave has spoken.  Link

I have no thoughts as I’m an Atheist but to those who practice or follow such things, how do you feel about this Cardinal who was selected and the fact that he’s the first pope from the United States?

Given that he's posted several times on Twitter over the last few months to show opposition to Trump, I'm wholly overjoyed. In Trump, we lost our international standing that tens of thousands of Americans literally gave their lives to achieve.  If nothing else, having an American who isn't a completely amoral piece of shit striding the world stage right now is a good thing. And Leo seems to be a very, very good man.

After Trump posts himself as the Pope, the Conclave chose an American
Cardinal.

If Everything Trump Touches Dies, did he just touch the Catholic Church?

Edit: a progressive newsletter I receive suggests he will be a pro-immigrant
Pope with an unpredictable relationship to the fascist-Catholic J.D. Vance
wing. We'll see.

It's funny, just this weekend I saw CONCLAVE, and when I saw Stanley Tucci not bothering to have an accent, I thought "How silly, an American candidate for Pope?"

The names they choose are never accidental.  His namesake, Pope Leo XIII was noted as a champion of the Working Man.  Good wages, safe working conditions, labor unions.

While he was a Cardinal, he already took a couple shots at both Trump and Vance.  Having criticism of those two from an American Pope is gonna burn.

Laura Loomer is already freaking out, calling him a "Woke Marxist Pope."

Apparently forgetting Marxism is an atheist ideology. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

The Vatican has traditionally not wanted an American Pope, because they did not like the idea of the head of the Church being represented by the same nation that is a secular superpower.

So either the Vatican considers the US’s political power is in decline or they think Leo’s Peruvian ties are stronger than his American ones.

While not a Catholic (or any religious denomination), I'm now really hoping Pope Leo XIV will firmly put the Trump administration in the bin ethically.

An American Pope - and the Anti-Christ in the White House ... reads like a cheap airport novel

Phil, I just googled the fundamentalist apocalypse porn Left Behind series, and apparently its Anti-Christ has his own evil pope, an... American (BUM BUMB BAAAAA!) from... Cincinnati (BUM BUMB BAAAAA!)!!!

That can't be a coincidence. Prophecy strikes again!

•••

I find myself wondering if the Cardinals chose an American BECAUSE of the Anti-Christ in the White House.

I'm `supposed' to be a Baptist, but I don't really follow any organized religion.
