He was one of the better ones—which is admittedly damning with faint praise

His whole tenure serves as a master class in threading the needle, something from which many leaders could learn a great deal.
Also, ironic that he died the day after Easter Sunday ..

Isn't Easter Sunday about the Resurrection?

Ironic wouldn't been if he passed last Friday I think.

Nonetheless, sad... he was one of the better ones as JB mentioned.

My wife loved him; I woke up this morning to her quietly crying over the news.

I could easily see the Church whipsawing back to a notably more retrograde position on everything, since most Western countries have been going that direction as well. Which would be another tragedy.

100% of Popes who have met with JD Vance have died within a day.  Coincidence?  I think not!

Interestingly, I learned today a Cardinal must be under 80 to vote for the next Pope.  So although Canada has 1/10 the number of Catholics as Mexico, we will have more Cardinals voting because so many Mexican Cardinals are over 80.

Same question.
............................
Given that a definition of ironic is "happening in the opposite way to what was expected", and given that he died, in some parts of the world, on the same day as Easter, a holiday that celebrates rebirth after death, if not ironic, one could at least find it poignant the leader of the Catholic faith dies right after having celebrated said holiday.
Not falling on my sword here, just explaining my original thinking, since asked. Maybe too much Catholic schooling on my part.
Also, it's entirely possible that if they didn't roll him out to greet people and give service on the holiday he might not have passed so soon. They may have exhausted him.

Francis never moved into the Vatican palace. He died in the same hotel where he'd been staying since the 2013 conclave that elected him. Although he did move to a larger suite.

I look at it this way: any Pope who doesn’t declare a Crusade to regain the Holy Land, doesn’t instigate skinning/burning people alive, and doesn’t arrive at a Concordance with a Hitler is A-OK with me.

I quite liked him; as JB said: one of the better ones.
