Very distinctly remember it being Marvel Two-In-One #50! The Thing travels back in time to cure himself of being the Thing when Reed creates a cure that would have worked on his pre-rocky self.
This was JB's first published writing credit.
I was new to comics. I had a vague sense of the Fantastic Four members from the Mego figures, but really knew next to nothing going in to the story. Holy Cow! I may not have known anything going in, but I had a strong sense of the characters by the end of the story. Reed - best friend with a sense of guilt for what had happened to his best friend. Ben - hero with a never quit attitude longing just to be regular but who had mellowed from the early days of his transformation; disappointed with this issue's outcome but undaunted!
SO MUCH happened in these 17 pages! And then JB appeared again in MTIO #53-55, and then he was drawing FF on his first run. Then, I found him on X-men, Avengers, and Cap! What a great gateway MTIO #50 was!

Fantastic Four #232, but not off the spinner rack. It was 1987. I had been reading three comics, Transformers, GI Joe and Elfquest(the Marvel Epic Line reprints). I came home one day from school to find a couple of Fantastic Four comics on our coffee table. They were #228 and #229. I had no idea where they came from and I didn't ask.Then a couple days later #230 & #231.I was really starting to enjoy what I had read so far. A couple more days & #232 & #233 appeared. I was really suspicious at this point and started nosing around. I found a box tucked in my dad's workbench with a bunch of Fantastic Four books(a friend of his at work had given them to him). I started reading then and was surprised a bit with the departure of the look of the FF from #231 and #232. Bill Sienkiewicz had been the artist prior and that's what I equated the look of the FF to. This other guy slimmed the Torch and Mr.Fantastic down and the Torch looked way younger to boot!! After a few issues in, I found that I preferred the way this Byrne artist drew the FF and I've been a fan of his work ever since.

My first Byrne book was a German collection of FF 242 to 248 some time in 1986. It was amazing and I absolutely loved it. Two years later, I then went on to find the original issues in English.

I remember well those covers at Charlton. I distinctly remember the one with the sailer spearing the eye of some giant creature. I wonder if any of these cover survived the passage of time?

Most likely first hit by the Byrne bug, with his first
Marvel Team-Up issues. This was years before I was
consciously paying attention to creator names. Those issues
still leave me marveling.

Am I crazy or are those Space 1999 covers still incredibly effective??
I mean, I don’t even like the series, but when I see those covers, I want to
buy it again today!

Most likely the first comic I purchased that was a JB was FF 212. (Paper route money) Surely, I had exposure prior to that through the collections of friends. The first time I purchased a comic because it was JB specifically was X-Men 132. I remember thinking what the heck is an X-Man?

X-men 108 for me . JB's first appearance . I thought Cockrum was excellent , then opening 108 i was blown away that the book was even better. (my opinion) . Usually that never happens.
