So, apparently, Reed Richards can split himself into two separate versions of himself? Geez. Why can't they leav well enough alone?:
Accompanying the article linked to above is a part of a page from a recent Fantastic Four story and in one panel Sue explains to an apparently oblivious Reed that an idea he has will kill him. Think about that one for a moment, when considering the character in question. Double Ugh. Admittedly, the panels are shown out of context, but has Reed now become the world's dumbest man?

I did something like this with my character Caucus, who split into three in DANGER: UNLIMITED. In his case the split was permanent, and the trio shared a joint intelligence, which faded the further apart they were.

I have friends who really like the Ryan North run and I like a lot of aspects of it, too but his use of Reed's powers is frustrating. JB captures most of the sense that I have that they treat him like PLastic Man (which he is not) and at times they suggest that he can make eyeballs appear on his hands or some shiznit. I'm generally open to creators pushing the limits and being creative with established powers but unlike our host's smart expansion of Sue's power set North's epansion of Reed's powers make him more like the other platic men of comics and that's too bad.

When I was writing FF I introduced the idea that Reed could alter his facial features, and by concentrating relax his body to the point of near liquefaction. Both of those expanded on his power to usage, but neither actually changed the power. (Important note: Reed has basically ONE power, which he uses in many ways.)This new stuff CHANGES the power.

The document just refers to a "Mitosis investigation" by SHIELD into Reed. It doesn't say if it was successful. Reed stretching his eyeballs to give him magnified eyesight seems entirely consistent with how his powers have been portrayed in the past.
