One word on Chicago from an ex resident: winter!”
***********
I recall a comedian saying Chicago was started by New Yorkers who said “I love the crime and the pollution, but we don’t get enough lake effect snow.”

I’m fascinated by the way cities evolve. Pioneers set up camp on the shore of Lake Michigan, got thoroughly hammered by their first winter, and said “Let’s stay for more!”

I've wanted to move to Ireland when I retire, but I went and married a woman who gets really depressed without enough sunshine, so now I want to move to Barcelona.

How is Chicago as expensive to live in as LA? I mean there are some suburban areas that are pricey and have high property taxes, but there are a lot of decent areas where the property taxes aren't nearly as bad.

Weather wise, the winters have been more mild as of late with only a few days of very bad weather.

I recently turned 60, and I expect I'll have to work another 10 years before I can afford to retire. I live north of Memphis, and Matt's assessment of Tennessee fails to offend me, as well.
