Peter, while the stock market is often pointed at (falsely) as an indicator of American quality of life, it’s not hard to notice that Trump has not mentioned the market or gas prices in the past handful of weeks.

The jobs creations (254K in the last month) and unemployment (3.4%) numbers are being ignored as well.
Color me shocked.

It’s sure strange how Trump brags about the stock market hitting a record high when he was President, but doesn’t mention that record has been broken (repeatedly) by Biden.
But it is certainly something a President has little control over, and should not accept praise or blame for. Similar to the rate of inflation and interest rates and gas prices, international events influence these numbers more than any President can.

Years ago I saw a Twitter post that referred to it as a graph of rich people's feelings. I can't view it any other way since then.

I wonder how long the love affair between Musk and Trumf is going to last? At the most recent rally Elon was literally (used correctly) jumping all over Trumf’s time on stage. A couple of giant egos on display at the same time, in the same place, one of them very brittle.

I can see it ending soon. The age difference alone works toward that. Elon still inspires youth, Trump not so much if at all. And when Trump loses he won’t be of use to Elon. When, I said!

You clearly trust our fellow Americans more than I do, Michael.

I don't see Trump/Musk ending anytime soon; Musk is animated by the same things that all of Trump's worst supporters see in him: a disdain for women and the LGBTQ community, a steadfast belief in white supremacy, and a distrust of science and expertise - all of which ever-increasing thanks to the all-you-can-eat right wing echo chamber and figurehead worship they're at the center of.
It must have been a jeans-creaming moment for their most ardent supporters; if Andrew Tate had joined them there would have been some Scanners-style exploding heads from the excitement.

My wife saw a Tesla with a bumper sticker “I’m sorry, I bought it before he went asshole.”

It’s not a question of what Musk stands for, or how the Trumf fans see him. It’s all about how many times the Orange One is going to tolerate not being the center of photo ops.

Musk is really being Trump’s useful idiot in Twatter. He is constantly posting about illegal immigration, but more disturbing is that he posts a lot about population demographics. This is clearly a build up to the whole ‘states can choose to ban contraception if they want to’ The reasoning will involve low birth rates, just you watch.

I still believe Musk’s embracing of Trump and the right is largely a marketing strategy. He moved his company to the heart of the US oil industry (Texas) because California liberals can only buy so many teslas. And he needs to protect his subsidies that the right could remove and the liberals will keep.
