I've come to realise if you post something that uses any kind of ironic antithetical approach online, no matter how extreme or obviously silly, that a lot of people will just read it straight as if you have an absurd viewpoint and miss the point you are trying to make.••• And that is the root of about 90% of the Big Bad Byrne stories.

My attempts at absurd sarcasm and so-called “dry wit” have fooled even the greatest of comedians. E.g: Exhibit AI need to stop doing it

**** I think in 2016 most in the country knew him as the celebrity real estate mogul from NYC... not DOA but cheerfully harmless... some didn't even expect him to win. (Didn't help that Hillary was already very unlikable.)
2020 was a clear indication that many changed their minds about him.
His base hasn't grown.... it's really just a matter of how many turn out to vote.

Only a fool would feel confident about Trump’s impending defeat, but I do take comfort that he’s lost the popular vote twice already, and to become president again he will likely have to overcome a third popular vote loss.

Way to go DJT. Way to insult the black community to their faces. He doesn’t have the mental acuity to even try and actually answer a question so he goes on the defensive with “you’re mean.” What a fucking joke. Any POC that seriously considers voting for this man has some problems.

I never feel sorry for Trump and it was fun watching Black journalists take turns clubbing him like a baby harp seal while he had to sit there and ejdure it, at least until his campaign pulled the plug.
A supercut of the lowlights

Michael — The point you’re (deliberately?) missing is that any rational person, dealing with Trumf, must assume deceit at all times. It’s a defense mechanism.************** No. I understand your point and maybe you are missing mine. People disagree honestly all of the time. Where the dishonesty enters into a disagreement is when one party starts accusing, or at least implying, the other of intentionally missing the point with no evidence to back up the assertion.
To be clear, I believe that Trump is a liar so we agree on that.
But either way, it's your message board so I will bow out of this conversation because there is no value in continuing this discussion.

The worst form of dishonesty is the intellectual kind, typically via the use of sophistry, the kind that seeks to surreptitiously normalise if not outright excuse Trump’s behaviour. A classic example: glossing over Trump’s pathological lying by saying “all politicians lie”.
To me the most dangerous aspect about Trump is that he’s got absolutely no political convictions one way or another. He’s perfectly happy to act as a lightning rod for all manner of extremist right wing/evangelical/Neo-Nazi/etc. groups. He craves popularity so much that he’ll court any right wing group as long as they vote for and fawn over him.
And I suspect that many people will vote for him in 2024 precisely because he’s a political mercenary
