The forces at work here are quite obvious. Trump’s “team” wants the natural resources that Greenland has in abundance. Much like trying to strong arm Ukraine in an attempt to gain their mineral rich mining, Greenland is the same. The cowards also want to appear strong, in line with Mark commenting on authoritarians. They want it both ways; “making America great again” means becoming isolationists but conditionally and when it suits them because they also want to expand which means engaging with foreign, sovereign countries. They are, in effect, bi-polar; engage when it suits their “interests” but recede when it does not.
This is not a serious administration. These are man children cosplaying world leaders, failing badly, yet not introspective enough to see the forest for the trees.

Trump invited Maher to a private White House dinner. Maher accepted, and said it was an honor. I would love to be a fly on the wall for that one.

I roll my eyes at Maher a lot these days, mostly because I can tell when he's just positioning himself rather than really saying something that he believes in, but I also respect his longevity and his determination to stay in the game. Whether that's ego or making sure honest, intelligent debate is forefront in the media, who can tell, maybe it's both. It's always been about what a body of work can tell you (listen to him talk about his work week), rather than any peccadillos of character that might throw you off.
