This seems concerning:

New Jersey mayor arrested for protesting at migrant centre

 QUOTE:
Newark Mayor Ras Baraka, who is running for New Jersey governor, "committed trespass and ignored multiple warnings", to leave Delaney Hall, a detention facility being run by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), according to acting US attorney for New Jersey Alina Habba.

Baraka was accompanied by three Democratic members of Congress, who were not arrested. They say they were there to conduct "oversight" to ensure that the facility is not violating any building safety ordinances.

It is unclear whether Baraka faces criminal charges.

"The Mayor of Newark, Ras Baraka, committed trespass and ignored multiple warnings from Homeland Security Investigations to remove himself from the ICE detention center," Ms Habba, who previously worked as a personal lawyer to Donald Trump, wrote on X.

"He has willingly chosen to disregard the law. That will not stand in this state. He has been taken into custody. NO ONE IS ABOVE THE LAW."

A statement from the Department of Homeland Security said that a group of protesters, which included the Democrats, "stormed the gate and broke into the detention facility" as a bus with illegal migrants was being brought inside the fenced perimeter.

"These members of Congress storming into a detention facility goes beyond bizarre political stunt and puts the safety of our law enforcement agents and the detainees at risk," the statement adds.

The department said it would have granted the members a tour of the 1,000-bed facility had they requested one.

>>NO ONE IS ABOVE THE LAW<<

Except, apparently Dear Leader.

Also, looks like habeas corpus is now on the chopping block.

Still recognize your country?

Also, what's with those Swedes defying our laws?  SMH

Of all of the depressing marginal details that define the real flavor of the MAGA era, the first wave of white South Africans who Trump gave refugee status to will be arriving here on Monday. It may be time to just cover all the mirrors in my house.

Nothing to see here.  Moving on.  Link

Of course I’m joking.  This a massive “gift” to Trump (not the US, mind you, as he will be able to continue to use it after he leaves office) that raises a not insubstantial number of questions pertaining to everything from National Security to quid pro quo to your basic grift.  In other words, just a normal Monday.

"They love me so much they offered me this beautiful airplane for free. All they said I have to do is have every meeting with, and about, the Jews on board the plane. A no brainer!" - Donald Trump, probably.

"NO ONE IS ABOVE THE LAW."

Can we PLEASE just stop with this phrase officially now? Those more cynical among us (including myself) never really bought into that, with plenty of instances to support our cynicism, but I think the past couple of years have proven this is decidedly BS. CLEARLY, the laws to not apply the same to everyone, and to continue to push that notion after all that has happened is ridiculous.

Sorry, Matt, but rule of law is my cherished reason for loving American
democracy. We have never practiced it perfectly, and it is taking an
especially bad beating now, but if I officially stopped using the phrase, it
would mean I didn’t believe it.

But I do believe it. And I think you should too. No one is above the law.

Edit: but I would officially like to stop using autocorrect that turns “loving”
into “living”.

Mark: "...But I do believe it. And I think you should too. No one is above the law."

I flat-out not only do NOT believe it, it's proven to be a lie. So, that phrase is (and really always has been) untruthful.

Edit to add: It's like the fairytales we were taught, even for my generation, that all police are our friends, that men of the cloth are above doing corrupt and evil things, and that George Washington never told a lie and so on and so forth.

I always called myself an "optimistic cynic," and still try to remain optimistic, but I also know what the reality is and tire of being gaslighted into believing otherwise (not by you, btw, I mean by society at large).

When Trump was elected the first time, I was still hanging onto what little belief I had in our system of checks and balances. I still thought that if he truly turned into a mad king sort, the Congress, courts, etc., would put him in check, even those in his own party. That first term of his proved that was all a sham, and this time around that has only been reinforced.

Trump will never pay for his crimes. He IS above the law and he rubs our faces in it everyday. Now he is taking planes from foreign governments, against the Constitution. A new day, another law he breaks... and will he get away with it.

Yeah... the law is not the same for everyone. I would LOVE to be proven wrong about that, but it ain't gonna happen.

Matt - I'm with you on this. I've seen too many instances personally and nationally that put the lie to that phrase.

Casey, exactly. I WANT to be wrong! If I was wrong, I'd be so damn happy about it. Yet, I'm not. Sadly, I'm not and all the proof is in our face pretty much everyday now.

So if you stand before a judge and he asks you, “Is anyone above the law?”
Your answer would not be, “that’s not the way I see it” or “no, that’s not
right” or “that’s not the way it’s supposed to be”— your answer would be
“YES!”

Whatever.

Here is where the circular firing squads start to form.
