I think Massie, Greene, and even Mace are part of a larger, long-term strategy to ultimately grant whatever is released some legitimacy among the MAGA faithful - which is where the Epstein files are even a thing. The general left knows Trump is a sex criminal and takes it as a given that he's in the files but thinks its a small drop in the general bucket of scum, the center has long ago come to the same conclusion about his guilt but doesn't much care, and even staunch conservatives look at it with a kind of realpolitik - so long as Trump keeps delivering on their agenda they'll look the other way. It's only the Bongino/Q Continuum that bought heavily into the ideas that there was a vast sex-trafficking conspiracy* and Trump would expose and punish all of the perpetrators.
The hope that this will somehow bring Trump down is completely misguided. As Matt noted, it won't even really be a ripple in the 2026 midterms narrative; since Trump himself isn't running for anything and his followers are adept at creating even more fantastical pretzels to justify things to themselves, the focus will be... I dunno, the massive Chinese-Australian cyberterrorist attack on the Panama Canal? Who the fuck knows what insanity will be top of the news cycle in 13 months' time?
*Which there WAS, just not the one they were told.
