 QUOTE:
Peter what is your solution to the war?  I've never heard it.  I would be most interested.

You couch your support for Putin or opposition to Putin in odd terms.

I oppose Putin. Ukraine are correct to defend their land. Europe is correct to aid them in this.

Yes, but that isn't what I asked you.  I asked you what your solution is.

A few days ago Zaluzhnyi said that regaining the 2022, much less the 1991, borders is not possible.  His speech is easily found online, but here is the Reuters story on it.

Okay, so the solution is?

And that’s the problem isn’t it?  There is no apparent solution.  If there was, it would have been enacted by now.

Option 1 - If the west just keeps on giving arms to Ukraine but not directly participating in the war, then the war will continue to grind on.  Both sides have defensive capabilities that far out match the other side’s offensive power.  Ukrainians will continue to die, their cities will suffer more damage, Russian soldiers will die, and some Russian cities will be hit by long range weapons.   This all sounds very negative, but the upside for the west is that in exchange for a very small fraction of their military budget, they have gained enormous intelligence about Russian capabilities, those capabilities have been massively degraded and will take years to recover, and we are finding out about how drones have revolutionized war.  Putin is ok with a forever war.   Any population tends to rally around its government while at war.  And any dissent
can be labelled treason and punished as such.

Option 2 - One or more NATO counties actively goes in and fights on Ukraine’s side.  Having seen how pathetic the Russians are, they would only last a matter of weeks against NATO.  This is the only scenario where Russia is forced out of all occupied territory.  The huge risk is that Russia responds with nuclear weapons.  I sincerely doubt they would if it was clear the war was only about liberating Ukraine, but who knows.

Option 3 - The west abandons Ukraine.  Without our support, the Russians would gradually wear down the Ukraine military and take over the entire country.  At the point at least, the bloodshed ends.  But now the west must deal with an emboldened Putin who thinks the west is too chicken to make war with him.   Guaranteed he will then invade Moldova.

Is there a fundamentally different 4th option I’m not seeing?

As far as I can see it, there are two possible solutions.

In the first solution, we dissolve all borders, rendering the invasion moot, in acknowledgement of the undeniable truth that we are one species sharing one planet, and we must work together to preserve our existence lest we destroy ourselves.

In the absence of that event occurring, then the hostile country leaves, surrendering all territory taken by force. And that’s it. The whole second solution. Nothing else is acceptable.

Okay here’s mine: Putler withdraws all RuZZian orcs, surrenders all stolen territory, apologizes to Ukraine, pay’s reparations, then surrenders himself to The Hague for trial… and a new pink pony with wings for every little girl in the planet.

Done.  I’m seriously done.  I will live and be happy with the fact that I nuked Brennan from posting. He only ever gleefully posted in this thread, never accepted a counter argument and consistently berated anyone with a view that differed from his own.  The discussion here, on the very vital topic of Trump’s near total tear down of democracy, was being single handedly derailed by one individual.

Good riddance.

Trump’s latest production President Evil:Tariffs continues to get poor reviews all over the world, with predictions of a $34b+ loss.

As it stands, the franchise is set to be rebooted, with the new series entitled Incumbent Imbecile and will star Elon Musk in the titular role.

Nah. Feels like it’s “Putin” mixed with “Hitler”. It’s as basic as that. Add in
pink ponies and, well, I think you get why Brennan was finally booted.
