At the risk of great mental anguish, I just spent a few minutes looking up Galactus online, and while the character has been badly messed up since my day, I was surprised to see how much from my day has actually survived. Now, excuse what sounds like paranoia, but Marvel has spent a good deal of energy over the past few decades basically erasing my contributions. (I think there may be people there who think this upsets me, but honestly I care only about the characters.) I think so many of my contributions to the tale of Galactus may have survived because I introduced them so long ago! And many were retconned in, making them seem like they’ve always been there. I mention this only because Galactus is close to being my favorite character, and it is most gratifying to feel part of his story.

Lee & Kirby's first FF issues with Galactus were stunning. JB's work with the character retained the cosmic grandeur of those original stories but also added depth. Every tale hit the spot, giving more of an impression of scale than all of those crossover events that used to get spread around the annuals of the eighties.
I discovered only last week that Marvel had introduced a character called Galacta, the daughter of Galactus, over a decade ago.
-sigh-

The son of……The daughter of…… The brother or sister of……. Are there any stories more bereft of imagination? (Cue sound of scurrying feet as trolls rush off to count how many times you I’ve done them.)

I’m pretty sure most people on the forum know Galactus IS my favorite character. JB’s hard work at restoring the characters gravitas and grandeur is the main reason why.

I loved Lee & Kirby Galactus stories, but I don’t think anyone wrote, or drew, Galactus better than JB.
That Haslab a few years ago should have been his design & I refused to bug it because of the head.

JB, I don't think they are trying to erase your contributions. I mean, maybe they are. (timid shrug) But my take is that the people that ignore or rip apart what you built are just lazy writers. It's cheap and easy to bring back people who died, or not take the effort to thread in plot-lines of the past. It think many writers are willing to dismantle the past for their new thang. Rather that be ingenious and weave it all together for something truly clever.

JB - What is it about Galactus that makes him one of your favourites?

Good lord. Checking the ol' database here: Link
Nothing says "cosmic" like some manga Zettai ryōiki.

Something I have noticed over the years: many, many artists cannot draw Kirby characters. By this I do not mean reproducing the original designs. I mean creating a new character who fits the models Kirby created.

We do also have the mother of Galactus now in the comics. I quite liked her as a character. <covers head>
