What does it say about the Republican Party when his announcement qualifies as the GOOD news of the week?

I don’t understand why these people announce that they are going to
announce their candidacy. Why not simply make the initial announcement
the official announcement? Why an announcement for an announcement?

It'll be the, "Look, it is what it is, at the end of the day ..." candidacy.

I'd guess it's to make sure it gets proper news coverage/attendance.

From Trump's burger pick up boy to candidate. Hoping someone other than big Orange or the FL Fascist runs so indeed, this is "good news".

Candidacy for the most powerful political office on the planet has become a joke. Our choice is between a feeble old man and a gang of self-serving buffoons.

Statesmen? What’s that?

He was a candidate, then sycophant, then critic. Given the alternatives and his being more "old school Republican", hope he causes chaos for the two monsters who are the favorites, but knowing him, once he drops out he will get back in line. GOP very good at that.

If you once got burgers for Trump, let him call your wife ugly, say you have a small weener, etc. and still defend or suggest you will pardon him, I have zero respect for you.

If it does come down to Biden and Trump, I'm still voting Biden. But it'd be better if we had a Democratic candidate who could rally the base and prove him/herself to succeed Joe. I think Biden feels he has to run to protect the office and country from Trump.

I'm with you Andrew... like it or not, Joe is, or seems to be, the only option. When the other side is serving up meatloaf made of treason, hate and Fascism, there's only one choice. I think the only unfortunate thing is Joe's age (remember, Trump is also old) but he's done a decent job insofar as restoring some respect for the US from other nations. After the big orange oaf, that's important. Like Obama, more could have been accomplished if the GOP was interested in positive things being accomplished, but "sticking it to the libtards" is more important than anything. It's great, not surprising, how many of them are furious with dimwit McCarthy for actually having the gall to "negotiate" with Joe. They're fine the economy falling off the cliff, 401ks drying up, etc. if they can get a win vs the Dems. A sad, sick situation that unfortunately lends itself to an albeit old Joe who at least acts like a gentleman and seems to care for the greater good at the helm.

Joe's the right guy at this time. I'd like a younger person, such as CA's governor Gavin Newsom, who is actually a tough Democrat but for where we are now, Joe works. I hope "the base" has reduced in size, even if they have gotten crazier, and the GOP series of losses continues. If not, we're in deep(er) crap than we are now.

Outside of a lot of people dying off, I don't see how this situation can be fixed. We are at the point where a flag or the mention of religion equates to hate. Scary times. The only thing that seems to "snap them out of it" is being arrested. Whenever I read comments some, not all, seem a bit remorseful, which at least is improvement over screaming, driving people off the road and threatening to kill innocent Americans who have more in common with them than they realize. The brainwashing is powerful.
