As awful as he is, he represents a large part of the american people. There's no good solution. It is not just the question of what he deserves. What he did, he did in their name, even if you can think his own interest wasn't absent from his mind, neither his sens of privilege. And if you let him go, what exemple does it set? A bi-partisan court to judge him then: but could he even be condamned under thoses conditions? An apolitical one by professional judges: does this really even exist? and who would believe it does? He played his card well (i'm not saying cleverly) Trump is the product of decenies of the GOP playing with fire, until they finnally got burnt. Sadly, there're already collateral damages!
In the end it will be a matter of what is the opinion of a very large majority of the American people. If trial there is, the prosecutors have interest to be pretty convincing, and not just to those who are already against Trump.
