A big regret I have is that about 6-7 years ago, I could
have gone to a con here in Las Vegas to gee George Perez
and asked him to sign a couple books and tell him how
much I loved his work and how much it meant to me and I
didn't go. Most of the time I've lived here, I've usually
been too busy to go to events of this kind. On this
occasion, I had the free time and didn't take advantage
of it.

I told this to a lady friend of mine who did some promo
modeling and cosplay at cons when she was younger. She
had met him a few times. She had a pic of her and GP
doing the CRISIS cover pose (death of Supergirl even
though she was dressed in a Wonder Woman costume) and
showed me a drawing he made of her as Wonder Woman that
he did for her mother. She told me that I really should
have taken the opportunity to meet him because of how
sweet a guy he was.

Of all sad words of song or pen, the saddest are these—it might have been.

That sentiment to me is the truest quote of all. And I've sadly had to use it much too often in my life.

Now with George, I never had the opportunity to meet him at a con. But in the months before his passing there was an invitation on a Facebook Group to post personal messages of Thanks and appreciation to him. I'll never know if he ever had occasion to read mine. But I do hope he had the chance to read most, if not all of them. And that they gave him some degree of warmth and comfort at how much genuine love there was for everything he'd done, and all the lives he'd touched throughout his career.

I miss just even knowing that he was around. So I can't imagine what it's like for the people who were blessed enough to know him in their real lives.
