Thanks, Mark.  At the 3 minute sketch fundraiser, I had asked George what it was like for him to have inked Curt Swan on the final issue of his run. He said when the pages arrived at his home, he spent the better part of a day studying Curt's pencils, soaking it in. Curt had been a big influence on George as a kid. Neal was also an influence on him, among others. Then again George said he was drawing since he was a toddler. So if the theory that every artist has 10K bad drawings in them is right, he seemed to get a lot of them out of his system by the time he graduated high school.                                                                                                  I did love how in Crisis, the Supermen both had unique but recognizable faces, the older Superman was very much George R., with Lois being Noel N., and the younger Superman and Lois very much Chris R. and Margot K.

One of those missed opportunities - all due respect to Walt Simonson - was not seeing the combined talents of JB and George Perez on the first X-MEN/TEEN TITANS team-up... what a rewarding crossover THAT would've been for the fans of both teams.

Still, I did get a good fix of that collaboration when ACTION COMICS #600 came along...

There’s no way I would have been interested in the X-Titans book.

Sorry to be adding a comment so late, but I was burying my own Father on Wednesday there, so Death's been all too consuming on my mind this week.

So sad though to read of George's passing. To me outside of JB he created the definitive looks for most of DC & Marvel's characters. Which was probably why it was him that was chosen for the JLA/Avengers match ups, (both times round) that he did such a masterpiece of. (Who else could create a cover with EVERY member of JLA & Avengers up to that point on it?)

But what I also loved about him was seeing how endlessly friendly and enthusiastic he was in his love for comics, the characters and their fans. There was no snobbish would be pc attitudes for him for instance in praising beautiful cosplayers dressing up as their favourite heroes and heroines. He just loved the passion and community of it all.

He was such a good soul, and the world is much smaller for his passing. Rest in Peace George..

Wolfman / Perez were scheduled to do the follow up TITANS/ X-MEN crossover book.   It was to happen AFTER the original JLA/Avengers book.

The bullshit that went down over the JLA/Avengers book killed DC and Marvel crossovers for all those years.

Rob Liefeld has a great podcast on the story.

Go find it and listen - everyone involved comes across as total dicks - except George.  It's a great story.

Not surprised you feel that way, JB... especially at that time... but in an alternate universe it could've been the greatest collaboration of my two favorite artists!

Action 600. Byrne and Perez. My fanboy head came as close to exploding as it ever has.

Thanks Michael.

And yeah Mike, even back then when my knowledge of artists wasn't that great, I could nonetheless tell Action Comics #600 was a special issue. The artwork was just so classy and elegant, and flowed together wonderfully with the story being told.
