With all due credit to our host, who can put Sue, Jean and bunches of others in his column...
Occurred to me while watching Dr. Strange this weekend that George drew, in my opinion, the definitive Scarlet Witch.
The man drew Justice League of America 200 AND Avengers 200.
Koriand'r. Still such a feat. Sexy and innocent at the same time. That was all in the art. And no one else can draw Starfire. Not anymore.

I'm glad that he got to experience the outpouring of love and affection since the diagnosis. I hope he genuinely knew how much he and his work meant to people.

John. Please stay with us as long as you can. I remember years ago of what
you said, and it stuck in my head since the day you said it. That when you feel
that the time is it, then your departure will be at your own doing. I didn't know
how to feel about that. But now that many of our artists that we looked up to
and admired are actually crossing over the mortal realm, it is really feeling real
and becoming a reality.
I am being selfish in saying this, but I really don't want you to go anytime soon
or anytime at all. And you are creating some of the most exciting drawings
we've seen and you continue to inspire, not just readers like me but many
many artists who look to you for inspiration. Please, just stay with us and stay
at the drawing board. We love you.

I still hope to be able to choose my own departure date. When that will be, I cannot guess. I used to say 65, but that came and went. For years I’ve said 89 would be good. That way I’d get to see the 100th anniversary of the beginnng of WW2. AND the centennials of Superman and Batman.

He was part of my childhood and integral to my love of comics. Amazing to stop and think that someone you've never met or talked to can have such a lifelong impact on your life.

Avengers 141 started it for me with George's art and collected everything he and JB put out .
Avengers 181 was a real treat with George's cover and JB doing the interiors . RIP George . |

A minor point of history is that Wolverine’s arms being hairy when in costume comes from George. Dave drew the character as if he was wearing skin colored sleeves, and when I came aboard I was expressly forbidden to do otherwise. Then George did a cover with Wolverine front and center, in costume, with hair on his arms. I saw that and said Okay! The sleeves are off!

What a loss. An amazing person and mega talented artist creator. I love George's work and in particular his Titans stuff, having been a fan of the 60s Titans and very happy when they made a comeback. Obviously influenced by what JB and Chris were doing on X-Men, it was a nice modernization of the heroes and boy oh boy did George and Romeo deliver on the art. I was part of a fan effort at the time called Titan Talk and a bunch of us, including young and already egotistical Rob Liefeld contributed drawings, stories, etc. George was approached by the creators of the fanzine and was kind enough to do a cover for us. What a thrill.
The industry lost two legends in a short time, let's hope it's quite awhile before any others go. Much love to George for all the smiles he brought to my face over the years, and best to his family during this difficult time.

It's very sad as a Genx'r to watch our heroes pass on the regular now and I feel very privileged to be able to interact with JB directly these past two decades.

Well I've took the weekend to process this news and I'm
still bereft. A colossal talent has left us and although
we knew it was coming that makes it no easier to bear.
George (and his work on Titans) was one of the main reasons
I continued reading comics, long after I should have given
up the hobby. His exciting, dynamic, innovative style and
powerful storytelling somehow spoke to me at a formative
time in my life. We're all fortunate, I think, to have
George's body of work to look back on and enjoy and
remember how much joy his work brought him.
RIP George Perez, we shall not see your like again.
