Some years ago, on our way out of a convention--the third day and we were exhausted--my very young daughter and I saw a fellow at a table apart from the artist alley... with a long line of people waiting.I asked her, "Would you like to meet the artist who created Raven?" (Raven was then her favorite character in the world.) And she smiled wide and said, "Yes!!" So we walked over and I said, "Mr. Perez, my daughter would just like to say something, if she could." "I like Raven!!" He beamed (as only he could) and said, "I like Raven too!" "That's all we meant to say..." "No, wait." He got out a sketch pad and, while chatting with my daughter about how she had 'met' Raven, sketched her both the Teen Titans version and a silhouette of his original. He handed it to her and I said, "Um, how much...? "It's on me." He nodded to his assistant to confirm and the assistant smiled back with a nod. We thanked him profusely and my daughter now has that sketch on her bedroom wall. It kind of broke her heart to hear he'd passed away. But it's one of my favorite convention stories, because it's about one of the nicest guys in the business and how kind he was to my daughter.
