More book blocking from the fine folks who brought you the Texas and Tennessee cesspools, this time with the angle that the librarian could serve jail time or be fined up to $1000.
Perfect pull quote from the article: “We live in a fallen world, and it is so hard to protect our kids,” said Republican Rep. Ben Adams.
Which made me wonder - what fallen world is that? Idaho?

“Fallen world” is an appropriate term. Unfortunately, at least as far as the United States, much of that fall rests squarely with the Republicans. (GOP? No, I won’t use that term. “Grand Old Party”? Not in a long time!)

"Protect Our Kids" is cover for a ton of bad, horrific policy. #1 being the "Don't Say Gay" shit going on in Florida.
I lived in Florida for 7 years. Admittedly it was the fairly liberal enclave of Gainesville, but I did. Generally nice people. Horrible state. Wouldn't choose to live there if my life depended on it.

The strategy of protecting one's children from the idea of sex versus actively working to elevate the threat of school shootings is the neuron-frying contradiction at the heart of today's Republican party.
How depressing is it that as I typed that, I'm certain I've made the exact observation hundreds of times before? I'm repeating myself and they don't change.

"Protecting children" mean preventing them from learning about things their parents don't want to deal with.

These Republicans aren't really very interested in freedom in the true sense of the word.
Freedom to them basically means setting laws to shape the world the way they want. If you interfere with them shaping the world as they see fit, you are trampling on their freedom. If you don't get the freedom to read what you want, or be what you want, or stay covid free, well, that's tough.

Oh no, they're all about Freedom, and Liberty.... except for where they absolutely aren't, then it's brute force and no respecting of rules, or laws, or morals, or even whatever they or their great leaders may have said in the past.

The Republicans chose scorched earth all-out warfare against the Dems back when Newt Gingrich was calling the shots. This is all the fallout from those days--and it's only going to get worse, because they have to keep stoking the fires of racism and white "grievance" to the limit if they want to keep winning races. And I don't think we've hit that limit yet. Anyone who felt bad for missing out on the violence and street fighting of the Sixties might have the chance to see history repeat itself.

Why did 192 Republicans vote against a $28 million emergency fund to address the baby formula shortage?
Well, you can’t blame Biden if the problem is solved.
Rinse and repeat.

There was a local article called "Demonize Teachers" as part of the far-right plan.
