To spare you all some disappointment, I should mention that Spider-Man is appearing here mostly because I find him fun to write and draw. He's not really intended to be some kind of x-factor (ahem) in this battle. In fact, it's barely a battle! Doom is plotting and planning, but what he's up to is beyond jonesing for another tussle with the FF!

This feels like the classic Mighty Marvel approach.
I can think of so many early Marvel books where a glancing appearance from a guest character whet my appetite for a lot more than was actually delivered. (And, in the end, that was a good thing and followed the rule of "never give the fans what they think they want").
X-Men vs. Doom is what I'm (not) shelling out my hard earned money for here! I love the sense here that he's brushing the FF off.

JB: I've collected your work since way back in Jr. High School, starting with Iron Fist through all your Marvel work and through any publisher you worked with. I love that you're in that "magic groove" that takes me straight back into High School into the classic, most defining era of the X-Men (the long-gone days of buying comics off the rack at the grocery store). I still collect some comic trades and hardbacks, which tend to stack up and too often don't get read. But I'm never behind on reading each page of Elsewhen, which is a daily dose of great art, characterization, and plot lines. It really does recapture the magic of that time, and I love that it comes in the form of raw pencils with no ink/color. I never quite know where the story is headed, which makes it a very fun ride. Thank you for this!

JB,
What would you imagine Doom's voice sounding like? Would he have an Eastern European accent? Any actor you could compare his voice to?
And what would his voice sound like coming through his mask? Any kind of distortion?

I dunno, “extremely adequate great art” is a bit clunky… Love the dialogue familiarity between Doom and the FF, it’s a real testament to just how long they’ve been at each other. “My dear Susan…” is awesome, and I realised I read it in my head with a Sam Neill-sequel voice - not an Eastern European. Interesting.

I imagine Doom as having a trace of an accent but speaks English with a bit of a "BBC British" flavor-- it would be a very distinctive blend of intonations--and the register would be between baritone and bass, deep enough to have resonance but not low enough to make glassware vibrate.

I love that Dr. Doom takes out the Invisible Girl with just the point of one finger! There is an arrogance in it that just works!
