"If it’s a willful transformation, wouldn’t they have to will themselves back to normal?"

Well said, Brian :)
I guess I always inferred that it was willfully maintained, like standing and maintaining your balance. It's second nature and you don't give it much thought, but you can't do it unconscious.
Colossus, when I first “met” him, struck me as the Iceman of the all new, all different X-Men. That is, someone whose power requires the maximum suspension of disbelief.
Curious - noticed the raw pencils show a star like pattern coming from the 4 on the Fantasti-Car. Often the raw pencils that are normally erased when inks are added have obvious purposes but I can't think of why those are there. I'm sure there is a logical reason. As always, tons of fun to read. Been a busy week and I finally got to read all of this week at once which was lots of fun.
It's panels like the lasst one that puts me in awe about your attention to detail regarding perspective. That panel could have been done completely freehand and most of us probably would not have noticed. Heck, I imagine that most other artists would not have bothered to lay out a grid for a shot like that.
With some of them, the lack of know-how shows up when they aren't drawing overdeveloped figures in skintight costumes. For me, I know the artist is a pro when they've shown us characters in street clothes, having a conversation or drinking coffee or getting in or out of a car. The kind of thing you'd see normal people doing.
They can go big, loud and flashy but the "small" stuff eludes them.
