This all feels so natural and unforced, and there are so many flexible time periods... anyone who complains about it just wants attention.

I wouldn't know what one Canadian PM looked like compared to another* but even if I did, I'm used to how you want this to feel so it wouldn't bother me anyway. This is your story to tell how you wish.

Personally I just love seeing Logan so comfortable with Mac and Heather right from the off. I loved how their relationship was shown by you before and this matches it so nicely.
*The one image in my head IS the one you drew back in AF 1?

The “now” time aspect of Elsewhen doesn’t come up often, but seeing the current PM comment about Wolverine does make my brain pause for a second, but that passes quickly. Mostly it stems from being much older and already having a comic history to pull from memory. Rolling with it seems to work just fine.

When did the idea of having Lilandra be tempted by the Phoenix-force first come to you?

I know you had some original plans for Phoenix to return as a recurring villain. But it was one big surprise for me in Elsewhen to have Lilandra succumb to Phoenix first.

It feels so natural, as if there couldn't be another way to go.

“It feels so natural” pretty much covers it. The idea didn’t so much “come to me” as “fell out of the pencil” as an organic progression.

       | Seeing Mac and Heather's first meeting with Logan is something I hoped we'd see in Alpha Flight as a kid. | | | It's interesting to compare this specific sequence with the one we got from Bill Mantlo and Sal Buscema in Alpha Flight #33. I've wondered for years how close it tracked with a hypothetical Byrne version.

JB, did you have any knowledge of the story or input at the time?

I'm curious if other future pieces of Elsewhen managed to see print at the hands of other creators...

Funny how dumb luck led to the original Alpha Flight being formed during Pierre Trudeau's time, and now Elsewhen putting them in his son's time.  Glad you figured out a way to have Pierre still being involved.  I remember as a kid seeing Trudeau Sr in X-Men and being surprised to see a real person in there (he was very distinct in looks).

Dear Santa, can I please have an Alpha Flight Elsewhen and a Wolverine the Hidden Years (meeting Mac until Hulk 181)?  Thank you and please enjoy the cookies and milk.

 Meanwhile...
If I don't get too crazy and align this AF history with the published one back in the Guardian origin story, wouldn't this be happening BEFORE Mac and Heather read about the FF's first appearance?
To have Mac be inspired by The Invaders just shows the reverence due to those original heroes, both in the story continuity and in real life
(way too often are those original comic book characters, that paved the way for all the others, forgotten) |
