John N.:" The Guardian comment made sense but where would Magneto have learned that move and when? "
Well, it could take some people a while to get a good idea and then use it. But it depends on how it works. Someone could attach to Earth's magnetic field and go shooting to the East, or "detach" from Earth and let the world move under them, "moving" west just as speedily. Without knowing which, it's an incredibly dangerous and stupid move. "I'm gonna blip from Boston to London by moving with Earth's rotation" - okay. All that's in the way is ocean and maybe some soon-to-be-disturbed (and splattered) birds. But Earth's magnetic field rotates at the same speed Earth does - and we do as well. This method might not get one anywhere that they wouldn't anyhow.
"I'm gonna blip from Boston to Chicago by 'detaching' Earth's magnetic effect" - unless they are high enough up, they're gonna hit tall trees, buildings, birds, airplanes, and a lot of debris. All at the speed of Earth's rotation. To phrase a coin... "Ouch."
Of course, there are 'leventy-thousand details to this, and Guardian IS a super genius. But I do wonder how THIS M-Men team would have fared against Alpha Flight. That coulda been messy...
