She didn’t wear a cape in Africa, when we met her. She didn’t wear much of anything!

Without the cape, wouldn't that take almost hurricane force winds that would mess up everything around her?

Not entirely certain if her power of flight is limited by her cape, seeing as how she was flying just fine back when she was in Africa and pretty much flew around in the nude.  I can't remember exactly, but she may even have been flying around sans cape way back when they fought Sauron (UXM #115).

Storm may have greater finesse over her ability to fly.  We're seeing proof of that right here as she floats about in her placeholder attire.

This may be an argument better suited for Banshee.   Different writer/artists grant different levels of leeway  ---   because when he attacked *Weapon Alpha*  way back in UXM #109, he didn't require any "gliders".   Same as when he was containing Moses Magnum's attack on Japan;  he appeared to be in hover-mode, so the gliders seemed to be more an extension of couture over necessity.

It sometimes puzzles me what comic book readers will and won't accept.
Them: Storm's weather powers allow her to change whatever she's wearing into a superhero costume? Makes sense to me!
Also Them: Storm can fly without a cape? No way!
Certainly if you aren't bothered by the first, then the second isn't an issue.

Now I want to see the Beast with a cape. Just a cape, fur and trunks.

I love Storm's modified look and look forward to seeing how it evolves either way. Her original is a classic, but this one underlines how regally she carries herself no matter how she's dressed.

I definitely prefer the Black Panther without his cape.

In a world where people can walk through walls, shoot lasers out of their eyes, or burst into flame at will ---  it does seem a little zany for folks to quibble over the "realism" of flight capes   >:^D

*guilty!*

Also:  totally agree about the Black Panther.

Maybe Edna Mode was onto something.

I’m trying to think of a character with a literal “flight cape”.

Doctor Strange, I guess? Though maybe he could just use magic instead of his cape.

Does Dr Strange's cloak of levitation count?
