Xavier as a man of action is something we rarely see.

And by steering the kids' combined powers, it seems almost as if he's wielding Magneto's -- a nice touch in this particular tale.

Whoa! Alt-Magneto was a nasty bastard. The Imperial Guard aren't very compassionate either...

Very expressive faces in today's page. Your skills are amazing.
Heh. The IG. Seems spot on to me. :)

Though the IG are callous, arrogant sons'a'guns, I find myself developing a grudging respect for Gladiator. As expressed by his affectionate grieving for Manta --- and likewise, his concern for Astra --- he actually seems to care about his troops.
Sure, as viewed through our lens he carries on like a big meanie, but there appears to be some degree of "humanity" in him.
Unfortunately for our heroes, he isn't likely to focus any such altruism toward Earth or her citizenry.

How much of Gladiator's attitude is due to Manta's death? I think many people forget about that first page of issue 10 over a year ago. He very much reads like a commander plowing forward to keep things glued together. Ever since Elsewhen started he has more failure than success trying to prevent bad outcomes or to win over adversity. Some of the only wins the IG has are against the X-Men who are allies! =/

Remember the IG was decimated by Phoenix several issues back, so Gladiator's likely clinging even more tightly to the members that are left. He has to be emotionally devastated from the loss of Manta still as well. That event may have been 6+ months ago for us, but less than one month in the past for him. We don't even know how many IG died at her hands. At this point he probably does not have the extra bandwidth to worry about other people.

Back in the day, as some of you may recall, I included a visual reference when I hit 500 published pages of UNCANNY X-MEN. That’s a number I’m close to now with ELSEWHEN, especially if I count the deleted pages. But there’s the Big Question. Do I? If I want to “commemorate” 500 pages, should it be only those “published” here? GO!
