Taps into something I was thinking about just recently. Unlike the DC heroes, most of whom were trained for or born into their roles, Marvel’s early characters were “just folks” who “fate” cast into their parts—usually against their will.*The All New All Different X-Men were far removed from that. Unlike the original team, who were very much reg’lar folk (allowing for Warren’s millions), the team introduced in GSXM 1 included a goddess, a circus freak, a belligerent native American, a belligerent Canadian, a belligerent Japanese and a former cop. Peter was about the only one who came close to “ordinary” being an innocent farmboy. I created Kitty to try to tap into that earlier model, but unfortunately Chris started undermining my plan as soon as he could. ————— *Couple of geniuses in the mix, Reed Richards and Bruce Banner, but they were exceptions.
