There I applied something I’ve done several times in ELSEWHEN: drawing the the face I wanted and then swiping the lighting from one of Neal’s, without copying the actual face, or even the pose. Do this enough times and I might accidentally learn how to do it!

I think a great way to learn it would be to do an issue of ELSEWHEN in the Blood & Trenches rendering style!
Seriously, artists of the future need your work as reference to teach them.

I really like the shading in this series. All the detail has been awesome to look at.

I actually like Aastra better than Kitty. Maybe it's because of all the BS that came after JB left the book .

I actually like Aastra better than Kitty. ••• Has Astra really had enough exposure to make that judgment? Serious question. I’m totally unaware.

I love that Gladiator took all of 1 second to decide who to save. He is a military leader, choosing who lives and dies would be a common thing for him. Doesn't mean it is easy on him afterwards, but at the time he would make the decision instantly not debate it. Save one of your soldiers or save someone else? You save your own first. I can think of a few ways this could go, but probably will be wrong so I just look forward to the ride.

Since Kitty Pryde is a 100% John Byrne creation, no one can grouse if she is met with a less-than favorable fate in these pages.
I would only hope that however it plays out, the X-Men get ginned up enough to FINALLY give the Imperial Guard the pasting they so richly deserve. Just a one-sided, rage infused, bloody nosed beat down. No equivocation, no crutches --- just a clear statement to those haughty Imperials that the X-Men have been playing by the rules up to this point -- but see what happens when they take the gloves off.

I'm not sure that's possible, with Gladiator in the Guard. Unless Jahf or Pablo can neutralize him.
And I think we've already seen the X-Men take the gloves off- they were fighting for Jean Grey's life (or so they thought) on the moon. I can't think of higher stakes than that.

I understand the reasoning behind such a decision... but it is not making me like Gladiator any better... even if that last face is soooo well realized. I’m hopeful that Kitty will come through this ok. You wouldn’t do that JB. or...would you?... :-)

***************************
On the moon, they were fighting defensively. Not everyone was 100% on board with the fight; I believe a couple of them expressed misgivings over the fact that... well... "Jean" had murdered 5 billion people. They were set to fight if they had to, but they weren't all exactly gung-ho about it.
Can you imagine their collective rage if they found out that Gladiator dismissed Sprite's life as nothing but a negligible snag to be discarded? As overprotective and genuinely concerned for her well being as they are, I think they would bring a new level of pain down upon the Guard. Wolverine and Storm in particular.
That fight would be fought with more intensity and a sense of vindictive rage, I think. But I could be wrong.
