One of the things I really like about JB's writing is the way he foreshadows things, like Nightcrawler being in the room on the previous page. Sometimes it's in a line of script or, at other times, it might be in an image.
If you are paying attention, and have enough knowledge of the characters, then there's a nice payoff for you as a reader when you "turn the page". It also works in different ways for readers of different levels of experience. Germany for long-time X-Men fans immediately has us thinking of Nightcrawler, while for new readers it provides them with information that they may not have had before.

Panel 1 of today’s page is so cool! Love how Jean is carrying the two of them.

The tilting of panels here adds to the sense of disorientation and urgency.

There was a period early on in my career--mostly IRON FIST vintage--when I was tilting horizons, like, all the time.Pretty much ruined the effect you note, Wallace! Live and learn!

That bit of hesitation in Magneto's voice suggests Scott's optic blast caught him off-guard indeed, and he may not be in peak shape at the moment. Also might be telling that his students haven't caught up yet. A shot point-blank could have hurt those three quite a bit.

I am loving all these plot threads. JB: Your switch-a-roo-s and meanwhile-s dismay me not!
Great page today. What do I love most?
Seeing the (alt)-riginal X-men together?
...Or Magneto vs. the X-men?
...Or the real Jean Grey alive, and doing...well...anything?
...Or artwork of a calibre that no man this late in his career should be able to produce daily?
What an embarrassment of riches!
Thank you sir, and good health to you.
I wonder if Cyclops bounced his optic beam (Captain America-style), he could catch Magento by surprise. I'd love to see him, just once, pulverize the creep!
(..but not yet! Too much fun to be had first.)
EDIT: Maybe he could bounce it off one Mageto's helmet and hit the other---a two-for-one deal! ;P

This issue is blowing my mind... WOW! I remember buying the art of John Byrne and being blown away with these what if characters... now oh so many years later you are delivering the goods in a huge way!!!
I have to say this may be the most memorable comic of the decade for me, way to go JB!
Sorry for exceeding the exclamation mark limit for a post.

Magneto's helmet is completely obscured in darkness. I see what you have done here. Which Magneto is this attacking? Maybe we will finally get to see how the two Magnetos work together.

Why would I switch Magnetos in midstream?

Plus enough of his costume is visible to tell which Magneto it is.

With this issue we now have over 400 pages of Elsewhen to enjoy! I don't think anyone foresaw that happening when JB decided to scratch that itch less than three years ago!
