I always found it interesting that "villainous" versions of Bobby — the alternate reality one we are meeting in this story, the time Emma took over his body — understood how the use the powers in more original and powerful ways, than "good" Bobby.
It said to me, it takes the thinking of a villain to be all you can be.
Which I think is on a Trump cap.

One of the undercurrents of this particular tale is just how powerful the X-Men could be, having shed moral considerations such as “right and wrong”.

I'm getting all primed up for Mr. Byrne's first time showing the original X-Men in action! (I think, except for a flashback panel here and there, that Mr. Byrne has never drawn the original team together and in a fight.) This is SO choice! Here's MY cliffhanger until Monday!
I notice you'll reach soon the numbering of X-Men: Hidden Years Mr Byrne...

I love that The All-Bad, All-Immoral X-Men are not only powerful and arrogant, but kind of whiners when someone fights back. Just like real bullies.
I get the vibe that they bulldozed their enemies without holding back and haven't had a real fight in a while. I'm not sure they're ready for the "heart" that the real X-Men bring to the table. "Our" team has a lot in common with Ben Grimm.

Reminds me of the time (in Secret Wars) when Titania tried to pound on Spiderman and said it wasn't fair that he was able to dodge all her attacks (and still hit her repeatedly). His response was something along the lines of: "so, it would be fair if we fought in a broom-closet?"

JB, does anyone assist you as an informal editor/reviewer for this project?
(Apologies if this has been asked and answered before!)

No one looking over my shoulder on this job—except me, constantly writing and rewriting, and redrawing.

I'm not going to assume just yet that that's "our" Bobby!

Evil Ice Man looks sharper, more jagged, so I'm liking that.
I didn't mean to knock things off track remembering my first look at Ice Man being the snowy one. I think this was the earlier house ad announcing the Byrne/Austin team which used Cockrum's art. That is pretty illogical though the art is one of his best (the splash page/Pg. 1 in #107).

The other one was circa late 1979 and somehow got me interested to buy not just X-Men #131, but also Amazing Adventures #4 (second part of the original #2) as my first X comics. It served it's dual purpose on that, and I was not at all disappointed or at that point even aware that there wasn't this Cockrum person's art 'as advertised'. That old and new line-ups one would've made for a nice 7-11 Slurpee cup! I did have the Ms. Marvel one which was Cockrum. :^)
'Nuff said, except now I am thinking how many more readers that spectacular panel of Wolverine in the sewers under the Hellfire mansion might've drawn in an ad!
