For the blades to be aimed at the back of his hands, Beast would have to be holding those hands bent back at 90° to the wrists. Hardly a natural or comfortable position.

This foolishness IS reminding me of something Chris and I discussed--a scene in which Wolverine finds himself with his hands pressed flat against the chest of an attacking bad guy, forcing him to pop his claws thru the palms of his hands,OWITCH! Didn't get around to it during my original time on X-MEN. Don't know if anyone did it after I left.

Nope. No one followed up on the "mechanics" of Logan's claws and soon the implication started that they were bone claws that had always been there (In all of his complicated and long history, Logan never got an x-ray?)
The "lining up of the claw tubes" idea has always fascinated me (ever since the interview where you first mentioned it all those long years ago) as it gives a nice little "flaw" to a character that is usually written as indestructible (other writers, not you of course)
And on a completely different note: What other name could Scott have ended up with? "Cyclops" was given to him by Charles, but couldn't he have designed a different visor and ended up with a different name and look?

Well, the giant Balor of Irish myth had a devastating optic blast. But Celtic mythology is a little out there, and Balor was a villain, while the cyclops of myth was more a cranky hermit who didn't mind eating passersby.

Oh, but it's so OBVIOUS. Wolverine's claws always pop out the back of his hands. Even if his wrists are bent, they come out right. Don't you people KNOW how Wolverine works? [/sarcasm off]

Well, the ports in his hands are actually portals to the claw dimension...

JB, has the daily presentation of Elsewhen had any effect on how you plot/construct each issue?

Nope. I’ve “always” tended to aim for a mini cliffhanger at the end of each page.
