Boy, that Claremont never met a trick that he didn't want to stea- homage, huh? I'm amazed at what we DIDN'T see in the X-Men... until you left, anyhow.

That's how I always thought Kitty's power worked.

 | ------------------------- Not me. I'd have gone for a C version where her molecules can overlap with another object's molecules, with hers not actaully having a physical presence. Whis is to say: intangible, as she is so often described.
Version A is fascinating and I like it -- it makes more sense (in a comics fantasy kind of way) than either B or my C. But can't say as reader back in the day that I understood it that way (if I thought about the mechanics of it at all).
Nice art on the current page, btw. I take it Kitty is better through practice at holding her breath?

That description fits how Claremont and Frenz used her power in the Magik mini-series (where Illyana gets aged and learns magic).  In limbo an older version of Kitty takes Nightcrawler (an evil version) and grabs his leg and lets go of it inside a floor with him howling in pain until killed.  Makes sense and fits the vision here and how I've always thought of it.  Hmm.. would be interesting to see how a young Kitty would react if she lost her grip on someone (a bad guy) while dragging them through the ground and they merge with the ground.

It might be that I have thought intangibility worked in

 | that way anyway - you pass between the atoms rather than
 through them.

And yes, it was possibly Magik (or rather, my
interpretation of that scene in Magik) that my
 understanding was correct.

How about this? --- molecules and atom are mostly space, so her mutant power just temporarily negates the weak and strong inter-molecule forces that causes repulsion.

I’m just enjoying this stuff for what it is, like we did when we were kids. Spidey can crawl up walls. Ben Grimm has a rocky exterior. Reed Richards’ body is elastic. Kitty Pryde can move through solid objects. I didn’t care about the mechanics of these things. What I did notice were inconsistencies, if there were any, from story to story.

Cyclops and Kitty are a great team. (Shoot, now that I think about it, Scott would make a great lead for a Marvel Team-Up kind of book)

It seems that there's still something about Pablo, even in stone form. There's gotta be more to that kid than we know. |

 This!

Too much explanation can suck the joy out of these things!

Hmmm... If the off panel voice in that final panel belongs to who I think it does, then that's a cool use of their power.  Something I can't remember being done before.

 | •• It's often been said that the first time a reader questions any of these thing should be when s/he starts looking for another hobby.
