Not sure if this is the appropriate forum for this question, but given we're on the topic of Jean?Phoenix... was their ever any discussion about having her head placed in the top left, cover corner boxes?

The simplest answer is “no”.

Technically, we could think of the costume as Jean’s skin >>
I'm sure someone has done a cosplay with just body paint at some point... :-)

Thank you for answering that. That was long a question of mine. After Uncanny X-Men 125 she became a regular and when Banshee's left, I really wondered why Phoenix did not replace his.
For years I told myself that it was because you guys (JB and CC) had deeply planned for Jean to go bad. In fact, seeing how Shooter got so involved (detrimentally) it is amazing that the stories came out as great as they did. A big part of me wishes he had stayed out and let it run as you intended.

Peter Corbeau, a buddy of Xavier's and head of the StarCore project to which the shuttle belonged.

A few comments:
1) You are SERIOUSLY nailing Dave Cockrum's style and layout with today's page. It's (forgive the pun) uncanny.
2) Peter Corbeau! Really? You don't miss a single thing. What a tour-de-force ELSEWHEN is for us fans.
3) I just put two and two together: the phoenix emblem grows as the phoenix-entity gains more control. Duh. I can be a bit slow...(Lilandra's was huge!).

...the way Cyclops is moving through the water---the positioning of his hands and arms.
...Jean's head in the at-water-line panel...
...even the thicknesses of the lines.
What an homage to Mr. Cockrum! (I did really enjoy his work too.)
JB: What stuns me is that you are so in control of what you are doing. There is no happenstance. No, "love it or not, this how I draw...can't change". You are totally in the driver's seat of your own abilities---and fiddling with the dashboard! It takes skill at the next level to be that AWARE.

Jean's (or "Jean's"!?) wet hair in the middle of the page is nicely rendered. A palpable sense of heavy with water.

Xavier was on the ship? I have no memory at all of that. Time for me to go re-read!*
*Which is not a chore. Dave's self-inked art on #100 was simply *gorgeous*.
